Twilight Saga Books: New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn

Twilight Saga Books: New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn

Update: 10-11-18

When I first started this blog, my oldest daughter was into the Twilight Saga book series by Stephanie Meyer. Recently, I’ve been going through old blog posts and seeing what still fits with the theme of my blog (money saving recipes and tips) and updating old posts. I can’t quite bear to delete the posts about the Twilight Saga book series. It was such a huge part of our lives. So, I’ve updated this piece with additional information I hope you’ll find useful now that the Twilight series has come to a close.

Our Experience with Twilight Saga Books

My oldest daughter read the first book in the series and fell in love with the characters. We were so obsessed at one point that we traveled from southern Indiana to Forks, Washington for spring break. If you’ve never been to the northwestern part of the United States, it is worth the trip. That trip still stands out in our memories as one of the best trips we ever took.

We bought a cutout of Edward and dragged him all over Forks and Port Angeles, taking him to dinner and traipsing through the woods with Edward Cullen. We even created a video or two with Edward Cullen, although I have to admit that Edward Cullen’s eyes were a bit… well… flat. I have to say that this reenactment from New Moon didn’t go as planned and that Edward Cullen was more “broken up” over leaving “Bella” than we thought he’d be. LOL!

Details About Twilight Saga Books and Movies

If you haven’t yet read the books that took the teen scene by storm in the 10s, you’re really missing out. Stephenie Meyer created a fantastical world of vampires and things that go bump in the night, but not in the traditional sense of what you might expect from vampires. Oh, they sucked blood alright, but other than that they took on a newness that left girls all around the globe shuddering in fear and ecstasy at the same time.

Did they make the Twilight series of books into movies?

Fans of the Twilight series waited anxiously for the arrival of the big screen version of the first book in the series, named after the series. Most of the showings are occurring at midnight in keeping with the theme of the books. The movies are all released and available on DVD. The movies are:

  1. Twilight
  2. New Moon
  3. Eclipse
  4. Breaking Dawn I
  5. Breaking Dawn II

Who made up the Twilight cast in the Twilight Saga movies?

The main actors in Twilight were Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. However, you’ll also recognize Twilight cast members Dakota Fanning and other familiar faces throughout the Twilight movies. Here are a few of the more popular characters from the Twilight Saga movies in no particular order:

  • Robert Pattinson – Edward Cullen
  • Kristen Stewart – Bella Swan
  • Taylor Lautner – Jacob Black
  • Billy Burke – Charlie Swan
  • Peter Facinelli – Carlisle Cullen
  • Elizabeth Reaser – Esme Cullen
  • Ashley Greene – Alice Cullen
  • Kellan Lutz – Emmett Cullen
  • Nikki Reed – Rosalie Hale
  • Jackson Rathbone – Jasper Hale
  • Dakota Fanning – Jane
  • Gil Birmingham – Billy Black
  • Anna Kendrick – Jessica Stanley
  • Michael Welch – Mike Newton

Were the Twilight Saga movies set in Forks, Washington, too?

One thing we found when we visited Forks, Washington was that it perfectly matched the Twilight Saga books, but it did not perfectly match the movies. The reason is that the movies were filmed nearby in Oregon but not in Forks itself.

This is an image of first or second beach in Forks Washington, a beach that is written about in the Twilight Saga series of books.
We had so much fun exploring Forks, Washington just like in the Twilight saga books.

Do people really still care about the Twilight Saga these days?

Yes, the series is still beloved by those who were Twilight fans. Even though the series was popular with teens, there were Twi-moms who loved the Twilight series as well.

You Might Be Addicted to Twilight If…

  • You call your boyfriend Edward even though that isn’t his real name.
  • Your best friend turns into a werewolf.
  • You watch people’s eyes to see if they change color.
  • Your next car will be a rusty, pre-historic pick up truck.
  • You’re obsessed with 1901 Chicago.
  • You call your hometown Forks, even though that isn’t even close to the real name of your town.
  • An umbrella goes everywhere you go, even though you live in California.
  • You watch what you say in case someone might be reading your thoughts.
  • You’re bored to tears with regular baseball games.
  • You’ve read every book in the series, more than once.

These are just a few of the warning signs that you might be irreversibly addicted to the Twilight Series. If you answered yes to more than three of the questions above, you are a severe addict and can only be cured by seeing the movie at least three times. Okay, that won’t really cure you, but it sure will be fun for Twilight fans!

Find Your Own Twilight Series

If you’ve never read the Twilight series of books, now is a great time to check it out. You may be able to tell from what I’ve written here how much we enjoyed sharing these books together. The key is to find something you and your kids both enjoy, even if it is vampires who sparkle, and share it together through books, movies, a trip and even birthday party themes. Make those memories now and years later you’ll still have fond memories to look back on.
