Louisville Zoo has a new baby giraffe that was born on January 11th, 2010. The baby needs a name and the zoo, in combination with Floyd Memorial Women’s Services, has come up with a contest. This is a fun contest for adults and kids alike, so a great activity to get the entire family involved with.
Weather in the Louisville area has sprung into spring. The days are warm, with the days expected to be in the high 70s the second week of April and in the same range on into May. It’s the perfect time to get everyone out of the house and to the zoo for the day. While at the zoo, stop by the Giraffe area and see if you can spot the new baby. Just seeing him may spark an idea or two for a name for the new giraffe.
The contest runs from April 12th to midnight on April 25th. Three semi-finalist names will be chosen. Those names will then be put on display near the entrance to the zoo. As people enter, they will have an opportunity to vote for their favorite name by putting coins and bills into the appropriate slot. The name with the most “votes” will be the grand prize winner. The money that is earned through voting will be used to help support the zoo.
The person who submitted the winning name will be awarded over $800 in prizes and will also get a look at the giraffe area from behind the scenes. You can get more information on the contest at the Louisville Zoo website.
