Rock Creek Lions Take Sectional Title

Rock Creek Sectional Champs

Although sports articles aren’t something you’ll see on Crabby Housewife often, I just can’t help myself tonight. Rock Creek Christian Academy just won the boys’ basketball Class A Henryville Sectional. I do love the game of basketball, but tonight I am just a mom that cheers on my daughter and her school. She goes to a small charter school named Rock Creek Community Academy (RCCA). We have only been there since last September. However, it doesn’t take long to realize when something is a good fit for your family. My daughter has thrived at this school and so have the other students who attend there. I am partial to Rock Creek and this article is not in any way an impartial piece.

Rock Creek Lions Take Sectional Title and Make History

The high school varsity boys’ basketball team is just one example of how RCCA helps kids reach their potential. Under the leadership of Coach Chris Brown, the boys’ won their first basketball sectional title tonight.

Rock Creek Versus Borden

It was an intense game against rival school Borden. The rivalry was equal to a University of Kentucky/Indiana University game. It was fierce on both sides. It seemed that the entire town of Borden had turned out and was set to cheer their team to victory. Most of the parents and students of Rock Creek were there too. Even though our number was smaller, the excitement was palpable.

The game was close all the way through. Sometimes Borden took the lead, sometimes Rock Creek did and sometimes they were tied. It wasn’t until the end of the game that Rock Creek had a burst and started to pull ahead. In the end, RCCA claimed the title with a final score of 66-58 and secured their opportunity to move forward to the regional IHSAA competition.

Post-Game Rally

Players, students and parents headed back to Rock Creek Community Academy (formerly Rock Creek Christian Academy) for a post-game rally. The coach had some inspiring words to say about his 16 years coaching, how far his players have come and how every student at Rock Creek has potential and the school’s goal is to bring out that potential in each and every one of them.

The cheerleaders cheered on the fans and Mr. Franke, who had so much faith in our boys that he planned the rally at the beginning of sectionals, treated everyone to pizza.

More Than a Win

This win was so much more to the families of Rock Creek than a plaque and a title. It was a moment in history that we were living. It was the hard work of some amazing coaches, it was the vision and foresight of school principle Sara Hauselman. The win exemplified overcoming great odds. It was a real Hoosiers moment.

Next stop on this journey is the regionals. With an amazing team, fan support and good basketball, we may just go all the way to state. Time will tell, but at the moment we are just basking in the win of tonight’s game, very proud of our students and happy to call ourselves Rock Creek Lions.
