The ClickList Female Revolution

The ClickList Female Revolution

Have you tried Kroger’s new ClickList service? Basically, you choose items online, choose a pickup time, and pull into a bay to pick up your groceries. They load them in your car and you’re on your way. It typically takes 5-10 minutes as opposed to almost an hour in the store. Recently, though, I’ve started to notice something strange when I go to pick up our groceries.

Even though we live in a time period where women are considered equal to men, in many families there are still very specific roles that are played. I’m not saying there is anything wrong with this. In fact, I think that God made men and women very different and most women enjoy the nurturing involved in cooking and caring for their families. However, the interior of the home has been the domain of many women and some of us work, volunteer, and are overwhelmed. A little help here and there is a wonderful thing and most men are happy to help their wives if they know what to do.

Ladies, have you ever sent your husband to the store with a list and he comes home and informs you they were out of cream cheese but he went ahead and got you sour cream instead? (insert any inappropriate food and substitute here). I love my husband dearly, but I have literally given him directions with the brand name, color of the package and where it is located in the store and he has still come home with something different. Enter ClickList.

Now, wives can do the shopping, ensuring they get the exact items and sale prices they want and hubby can pull through the store on his way home from work. So, the last couple of weeks when I have arrived at the store, there have been other cars there, too. There are men in those cars, which is unusual. If you do most of the shopping for your household, you are aware that when you go into the store, there are about 75% women. Sometimes you will see couples shopping together. Rarely, you will see man shopping alone. Maybe it is the time of day I go to the store, but this has held true in my experience.

While I have been over here singing the praises of ClickList (have I mentioned I LOVE this service?), it never occurred to me that I could send my husband to pick up the groceries for me (sorry, Scott, your time is coming). This means if I am swamped with work, not feeling well, or just don’t feel like it, I can now send him to the store and be assured I’ll get the items I need.

I have often wondered over the years if men bring home the wrong items intentionally. I mean, what better way to get out of shopping without a fight because you refuse to do it? Maybe it is my passive aggressive personality that sees this as a real possibility. If that is what some men are doing, then ClickList removes their ability to commit that passive aggressive act and forces them to help.

It could also be that it is so quick and easy that men offer to run and pick up the ClickList order. Have you tried out ClickList yet? What are your thoughts? Have you sent your husband to pick up an order for you?

Fashion for Cancer Patients

Fashion for Cancer Patients

Patients of mesothelioma due to asbestos exposure or other types of cancer can look beautiful despite intensive treatments and therapies. Learn about color, makeup, accessories and other youthful fashions.

A cancer diagnosis, such as finding out you have mesothelioma due to asbestos exposure, can be devastating. While going through treatments, it can be hard to focus on anything but your prognosis and what the doctors have to say. However, focusing on fashion can help take your mind off your difficulties and make you feel like the beautiful woman you are inside and out.

Don’t Fear Color

Lipstick can add color and make you feel younger.

Cancer treatments can wash out your color and make you feel pale. However, don’t be afraid to add a bit of color to your wardrobe and makeup. A bright pink lipstick can help you feel more confident. Match with a skirt and shoes in a matching color.

Shoes

What woman doesn’t feel better after buying a cute new pair of shoes? When it comes to shoes, just about any style goes. If you feel sore and achy, try some of the more comfortable, but still cute fashions available today, such as the boat deck shoes like Sperry. Adding a pair of wedge heels can also add height and make you appear slimmer and more confident. Boots can be worn all year long and not just during the winter months. Youthful boots are typically casual and flat and come in a variety of colors.

Skirts

Skirts are perfect additions to any wardrobe because they are so versatile. A longer skirt can be paired with a lacy or silk blouse for a formal evening. On the other hand, a simple polo shirt takes the skirt to casual and creates a look that can go to lunch with friends or spend a day at work. Skirts come in all colors, styles, shapes and sizes. For a youthful look, try bold patterns or unique cuts. Consider how high of a slit is appropriate for the environment where you’ll be wearing the skirt. Another tip is to try crouching and moving around when trying the skirt on. The last thing you want is a piece of clothing that is uncomfortable. That can make you feel less confident. If choosing between two skirts, always go with the one that affords the most movement and comfort.

Accessories

If a new wardrobe isn’t in your budget due to medical bills, accessories can really jazz up your appearance and make an old outfit look new again. A wide belt can be cinched over a long shirt. Big jewelry can take a solid color and make it look bright and cheerful. A scarf can be tied around your neck to draw attention to your face and add a bit of color at the same time. Use your creativity and you’re sure to come up with a look that you’ll love.

Cinnamon Raisin French Toast

Cinnamon Raisin French Toast

Recently, we went to Huber’s Winery and Orchards and visited their little marketplace there and had some fresh homemade ice cream. We wound up buying a loaf of cinnamon raisin bread, because my husband loves it and I decided to make him some cinnamon raisin French toast on the recommendation of the lady working there (he also loves French toast).

I didn’t eat any of this, but he gave it rave reviews. It smelled heavenly. If you don’t live anywhere near Huber’s, you can purchase any loaf of cinnamon bread. The one I purchased had a drizzle of icing and was very thick with minimal raisins and cinnamon swirls. I sliced it into about 1-inch thick slices.

Cinnamon Raisin French Toast
This recipe serves 2. If you want to make more, just double the recipe. If you go beyond that, you may want to mix in two batches as the taste can be off in bigger batches than for 4. A loaf of bread should serve 6-8 people easily. We had a ton left over, which my hubby has happily munched on all week.

Ingredients
  • 1 Tablespoon white granulated sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon yes, more cinnamon!
  • 2 eggs
  • Dash of vanilla extract
  • 1/8 cup milk
  • 2 pats of butter
  • Cinnamon raisin bread
  • Powdered sugar optional
  • Syrup flavor of choice
  • 2 Tablespoons chopped pecans optional
Instructions
  1. In a shallow pie dish...
  2. Mix together dry ingredients (sugar, and spices)
  3. Add milk
  4. Whisk in eggs
  5. Add vanilla extract and stir
  6. Cut bread into thick slices. Lay in egg mixture for 30 seconds on each side.
  7. Melt butter and slowly warm frying pan on medium heat. Continue to drench bread slices in egg mixture while you wait for pan to heat.
  8. Cook approximately 5 minutes on each side, but you'll want to slightly lift after a few minutes and check to see if the toast is browning. A light golden brown color is what you're going for. Ideally, the outside will be crispy and the inside ooey, gooey.
  9. Place finished bread on plate and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
  10. Top with syrup of your choice. We used maple.
  11. Scatter chopped pecans over entire concoction.
  12. Try not to eat too fast, but it will be a challenge 🙂

Roma Tomatoes Simple Salsa

Roma Tomatoes Simple Salsa

Do you have so many tomatoes that you don’t know what to do with them all? This year, I planted some roma heirloom plants that my good friend Sally sent me a while back. They produced the most delicious roma tomatoes you’ve ever tried, but there were so many of them that we couldn’t keep up just eating them on salads and such. I decided to go ahead and try my hand at making salsa. We love salsa and eat it for snacks, on eggs, on Mexican dishes, etc.

Although the chopping was a little time intensive, if you have a food processor, you can speed this up. The recipe is simple, ingredients you likely have in your garden or on hand, and delicious. Salsa is pretty basic. Nearly every salsa out there has similar ingredients. The key to getting salsa you love is to tweak it until the flavor is perfect. This is my perfect flavor. You may want to play around with it a bit to get to yours.

Ingredients
  • 3 cups roma tomatoes diced
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoons minced garlic
  • Juice from 2-3 limes
  • 1/2 cup chopped red onion
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 Tablespoon cilantro if desired
Instructions
  1. Clean and cut tomatoes in half. Remove seeds and juice. Dice.
  2. Add garlic, chopped red onion and chopped cilantro. Stir.
  3. Add salt and pepper. Stir.
  4. Squeeze 2-3 limes into the bowl and stir into the mixture.
  5. Refrigerate overnight and enjoy.
Recipe Notes

Personally, I don't care for too much cilantro in my salsa and would probably just leave it out, but my family likes the taste. I think it makes the salsa taste a bit soapy. I usually compromise by adding it but only adding a little. You may want to especially experiment with this ingredient to see what tastes best to you.
