Review of Vinyl Disorder Wall Products

Review of Vinyl Disorder Wall Products

My daughter recently joined the Sigma Kappas at Indiana University Southeast. She is so excited to be a pledge in this sorority, so I thought I’d surprise her after she got her bid with a wall decal for her bedroom or perhaps to use for your sorority. She loves to decorate her walls with different things and I knew she’d enjoy these whatever she used them for.

After searching around the Internet, I decided to order from Vinyl Disorder. They create car and wall decals. They had a really nice selection of different size and colors and their prices seemed reasonable to me. Plus, I had a coupon and you know how I am with my coupons.

Quality of the Product

I love vinyl lettering and images for walls. They are very easy to remove if you get tired of them or want to redesign things, but they look great and can be displayed with other objects for a unique look. The quality of the vinyl used by Vinyl Disorder was fabulous. These letters will hold up. We didn’t actually place them on the wall yet, though. Hailey is deciding whether to live on/near campus still or stay at home and she wanted to wait before putting them up until she decides. So, I did a careful investigation of them and I have to say that they are nice and thick and would hold up really well for a long time.

Ease of Installation

Like I said, we didn’t actually put them up yet, so I had to do some investigation on this topic. Other users say they are very easy to put up and I also liked that they came with detailed instructions. I don’t have to guess what to do. It is laid out clearly for me.

Customer Service

I was actually waiting before I wrote up this review because I wanted to see how they handled a situation I ran into.

First, I want to note that when you are ordering, pay careful attention to the sizing. I got confused between length and height. The other sites I had visited displayed by height and I just assumed that longest section would be the height. This was not correct in this case because the Greek letters were so fat.

In fact, I would encourage you to phone the company if you aren’t sure of the exact dimensions. While it was my fault for not reading more carefully, I wasn’t very happy when the letters arrived and were 9″ tall instead of 18″ tall. That wasn’t at all what we had wanted.

I wrote them a letter, because at first I thought I’d been sent the wrong thing. We had a few bumps in the road on this one until I had a chance to speak to the manager. The manager was wonderful. He explained the entire process of how they figure sizes and why the sizing was the way it was and that making it 18″ tall would make the letters 40″ wide (too wide for what I wanted), but he offered to scrunch the letters together as long as I understood they’d look a bit different.

The company replaced the initial order for me and although I offered to pay postage, they said they’d cover it. I had the new letters within a week. They are a beautiful gold color, too. As I said, the vinyl is very high quality.

I have to say that even though this was technically my fault for not reading more carefully, at the end of the day the company went out of their way to make me happy and keep me as a customer. I will definitely be ordering from them again as I am in the process of starting redecorating our 11-year-old home.

The bottom line? I highly recommend them and their product. Just keep an eye on the measurements and if you are unsure, go ahead and call them to find out the exact dimensions before you order. I also want to add that I wasn’t paid and am not affiliated with this company. I simply ordered a product from them and had a problem with that initial order which the manager fixed for me.

I don’t get any percentages if you order from them. You can trust that when I say that I genuinely liked the product and the customer service I received from the manager.

Mom, How Do I Clean a Moldy Fridge?

Mom, How Do I Clean a Moldy Fridge?

“Mom? I have a weird question.” So began the phone call from my daughter who is away at college.

Someone left queso in the refrigerator in a community fridge for a program she’s involved in. It not only made the entire room smell, but she was worried the mold was inside the fridge, and right so.

Left unfettered, mold can cause all kinds of health problems. Sure, they make penicillin from this stuff, but it also creates a host of health problems, especially if it is black mold.

Don’t Eat It

You may have heard that it’s okay to just scrape off mold and eat the remaining cheese when it is a hard cheese. Please don’t do this. Mold has threads that can stretch pretty far into the cheese. It is just better to go ahead and toss it. Better? If you have more cheese than you can eat before it molds (and it takes cheese a LONG time to mold), then freeze it and unthaw when you’re ready to use it.

Kill It

I told my daughter to buy bleach and lots of it. Remove everything from the fridge and wipe it down with bleach diluted with water. The instructions are usually on the bottle.

If there was a spot where mold was growing on the fridge to pour straight bleach on but be VERY careful. Bleach will discolor anything it touches and can burn eyes and skin. Also, she would need to clean the seal around the outside with diluted bleach.

Unfortunately, if the issue is too far gone, the fridge may have to be pitched. She can give it a good try though, because it will save a lot of money if it can just be cleaned.

I read over on Thrifty Fun that a gentleman used cinnamon oil to kill the smell. He had done some research into it and I find the process he used interesting. It was fairly simple, so one you might want to try. Go to the article on Thrifty Fun and then scroll down to the comments.

The best way to avoid a moldy fridge is to never leave expired food for extended lengths of time and to prop the door open when the fridge is not turned on. Sometimes the unexpected happens, though.

Cheap Way to Clean Your Garbage Disposal

Cheap Way to Clean Your Garbage Disposal

Even the best of garbage disposals start smelling downright nasty from time to time. Food sticks to the blades and doesn’t get washed down the drain properly and before you know it, you have a nose curling stench on your hands.

Fortunately, it is very easy and very inexpensive to clean your garbage disposal. There is a simple, three step-process that will work to get most food broken up and get rid of most nasty smells.

You’ll Need:

  • Ice
  • 1 box baking soda
  • 2 cups of vinegar
  • 2 sliced lemons

Step 1

Ice cubes are excellent for breaking up some of the grime on the blades. They are very hard, which makes a horrible sound when they hit the blades, but that roughness starts to break up stuck on food. For the best results, start the blades whirring with a small, steady stream of cool water. Add ice cubes a cup at a time.

Allow the blades to completely breakup the cup of ice cubes until the blades are again running smoothly without making that horrid ice crunching sound. Repeat two or three times.

Step 2

Now, you want to disinfect the disposal. Turn the blades off and the faucet off.

Pour a container of baking soda into the disposal. Pour 2 cups of white vinegar in the disposal.

Allow this mixture to bubble and froth for a while. You can even walk away and do some other stuff.

When you return, stream hot water into the disposal and give it a whir for a minute.

Step 3

Your final step adds some lovely scent to the disposal while also killing any leftover smells. Slice up two lemons and feed them into the running disposal with cool water running. Keep the blades going until the lemons are fully cut up and rinsed down the drain.

A Few Notes

As with any time you use the disposal, keep clear of the opening so you don’t come to harm. If you want to keep your disposal from getting smelly, you can repeat this process once a week to prevent grimy buildup.

This isn’t a pretty job, but somebody has to do it. As far as cleaning tasks go, it is fairly quick and painless, too.

All Natural and Simple Air Freshener

All Natural and Simple Air Freshener

I learned a little trick from my mother-in-law years ago. Simply slice up an orange, add some cinnamon and nutmeg to a pot of simmering water and you have a wonderful air freshener that is very inexpensive and makes the house smell as though you’ve been baking Christmas goodies all day.

Although I usually only think to do it during the holidays, you can use this type of freshener any time of year. One great use is if you have some oranges that are a little too ripe to eat. This can allow you to utilize them without just throwing them out.

Author: Crabby Housewife
Ingredients
  • 2 oranges sliced
  • 3 cinnamon cloves you can use ground cinnamon if that is all you have
  • Sprinkle of nutmeg
  • Small pot of water
Instructions
  1. Fill a small pot with water and place on stove on simmer or your lowest heat setting.
  2. Add oranges, squeezing a few to release the juice into the water.
  3. Add cinnamon and nutmeg.
  4. Allow to simmer throughout the day. You can add more water as needed.
  5. I usually set my oven timer for an hour at a time as well, so I don't accidentally go off and leave it burning. The last thing I want to do is burn my house down while trying to scent it.
