All Natural and Simple Air Freshener

All Natural and Simple Air Freshener

I learned a little trick from my mother-in-law years ago. Simply slice up an orange, add some cinnamon and nutmeg to a pot of simmering water and you have a wonderful air freshener that is very inexpensive and makes the house smell as though you’ve been baking Christmas goodies all day.

Although I usually only think to do it during the holidays, you can use this type of freshener any time of year. One great use is if you have some oranges that are a little too ripe to eat. This can allow you to utilize them without just throwing them out.

Ingredients
  • 2 oranges sliced
  • 3 cinnamon cloves you can use ground cinnamon if that is all you have
  • Sprinkle of nutmeg
  • Small pot of water
Instructions
  1. Fill a small pot with water and place on stove on simmer or your lowest heat setting.
  2. Add oranges, squeezing a few to release the juice into the water.
  3. Add cinnamon and nutmeg.
  4. Allow to simmer throughout the day. You can add more water as needed.
  5. I usually set my oven timer for an hour at a time as well, so I don't accidentally go off and leave it burning. The last thing I want to do is burn my house down while trying to scent it.
