Freefalling Through FlyLady’s Rules
So, I discovered a website a while back called FlyLady.net. Her site is geared for crazy homemakers like me who truly don’t have a clue. If I follow her system, she promises that I’ll get decluttered and more organized just fifteen minutes at a time.
I’ve now been following Flylady’s principles for about six years. I think I failed her test. While her concepts have helped me a great degree, by the time I get up, get dressed, put on my shoes, makeup, etc. Then, I make my bed, swish my toilet, clear my sink (deep breath), spend fifteen minutes on whatever room flybabies are on that week and so on, my day is over.
I truly love the Flylady site and I am not dissing her at all. I am talking about my own lack in being able to implement her plans. You see, I tend to get distracted. I can’t just go and spend 15 minutes sorting, because the phone rings or the text message beeps or someone comes to the door.
These are the things that have worked for me:
- Keeping hot spots clear
- Decluttering wherever I can
- Going through mail immediately and throwing away or taking care of things
- Just being more aware of the house and how it looks
- Knowing there are others out there as disorganized with the house as I am
